TORONTO, ON - October 4, 2024 - The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) is pleased to share that Japan has again been selected as the most desirable country in the world to visit by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler in their 2024 Reader’s Choice Awards. With an overall rating of 94.79 - a more than two-point increase over last year - Japan finished just ahead of Portugal, Turkey, Italy, and Spain.
“We are extremely honoured and humbled to be recognized with this award again in 2024, and feel encouraged that our destination continues to resonate so strongly with visitors around the world,” said Ms. Yuka Suzuki, Executive Director of the JNTO’s Toronto office. “As we continue to grow our tourism experience and highlight the diversity and regionality that exists beyond the most popular destinations, we believe Japan will continue to speak to visitors of every taste and preference.”
The Reader’s Choice Awards are among the most important and respected recognitions within the global travel industry. They are voted on annually by the readership of Condé Nast. The city of Tokyo was also recognized by the readership as the “Most Attractive City in the World”, the winner of a vote that included metropolitan areas with a population of at least 500,000.
While many visitors are likely already familiar with Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nara, an increasingly bright spotlight has been shone on authentic, sustainable experiences in Japan’s rural areas, far from these well-travelled hotspots Mountain temples, coastal hiking trails, traditional farm stays, and out-of-the-way
