Wanderlust A love letter to JAPAN

The latest issue of Wanderlust is out now, giving significant focus on our audience’s ‘Most Desirable Destination’, Japan. For the first time in Wanderlust’s 30+-year history, the cover is not a photograph. Wanderlust chose instead Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, reflecting both the in-depth focus on Japan in this issue and the launch of the editorial theme for 2026: the ‘Year of Culture’. Japan, a multi-award winner at our Wanderlust Reader Awards, forms the heart of this special edition, with more than 120 pages dedicated to the country. Coverage ranges from iconic sights to lesser-known regions, alongside features on national parks, izakayas, ryokan stays and the practicalities of planning a trip across the archipelago. To add to this stand out coverage, Japan also features in Wanderlust’s ‘Good to Go List’, as one of the 26 destinations highlighted for 2026.
Ride in Style JR Kyushu’s Iconic Sightseeing Trains
The JR Kyushu Rail Pass lets you discover the region extensively, comfortably, and in an eco‑friendly way. Beyond the Shinkansen, JR Kyushu also operates a variety of distinctive and charming sightseeing trains. JR Kyushu’s Design & Story Trains are uniquely themed sightseeing trains created to showcase the culture, scenery, and craftsmanship of Kyushu. Each train features distinctive interiors and thoughtful concepts that make the journey itself an unforgettable experience. The Yufuin no Mori offers warm wooden interiors and panoramic windows as it travels to the hot spring town of Yufuin. Aso Boy!, themed around the beloved dog “Kuro,” is popular with families and runs through the dramatic landscapes of the Aso caldera. Inspired by a jazz classic, the stylish A‑Train features elegant stained‑glass décor between Kumamoto and Misumi. The Ibusuki no Tamatebako, designed like a monochrome “treasure box,” follows the scenic coast of Kagoshima Bay, while Umisachi Yamasachi highlights Miyazaki’s Nichinan coastline with its handcrafted wooden interiors. Newer trains such as Two Stars 4047 and the luxurious 36+3 offer curated regional journeys, and the beautifully restored Aru Ressha provides an elegant, gourmet rail experience. Together, these trains embody JR Kyushu’s creativity and storytelling through travel. Tickets can be reserved online or through your preferred DMC. For inquiries, please contact JR Kyushu.

Ishikawa Ranks on the BBC’s “Best Places to Travel in 2026” List

In December last year, Ishikawa was chosen on the BBC’s 20 Best Places to Travel in 2026. Spotlighting Ishikawa’s unique charms – from the renowned crafts of Kanazawa to the sake breweries and seafood of the Noto Peninsula – the article frames a visit to Ishikawa as a chance to aid recovery from the 2024 earthquake and keep Ishikawa’s traditions alive. Visitors to Ishikawa can experience farm life at a “farmhouse inn” in Noto, or try their hand at traditional “Kaga Yuzen” kimono dyeing in the workshops of Kanazawa. Against a backdrop of increasing desire for authentic and sustainable travel experiences, the BBC’s coverage reflects travellers’ changing tastes and is sure to pique readers’ interest in Ishikawa as a destination.

The Westin Miyako Kyoto  Unveils a New Era of Elegance

The Westin Miyako Kyoto opened in 1890, welcoming distinguished guests for over a century. In 2020, the hotel marked its 130th anniversary and underwent an extensive renovation, creating refined facilities designed to meet the expectations of even the most discerning luxury travellers. Within this storied property lies Kasuien, an architectural jewel designed by the celebrated architect Togo Murano in 1959. The sukiya-style exterior and Japanese gardens have been preserved in their original design, while the generously proportioned guest rooms express Murano's design philosophy through carefully inherited details, with infrastructure fully modernised. Every suite features a private natural hot spring bath, offering authentic onsen culture in complete privacy. As part of the renovation, the number of Western-style guest rooms was reduced by nearly half, allowing for significantly more spacious layouts.
