Toronto, February 10, 2026 - The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) is pleased to announce that it has successfully secured the bid to host ACTA’s International Destination Conference 2026 in Yokohama, Japan. From November 30 to December 4, up to 150 representatives and retailers from the Canadian travel industry will visit Japan to experience the destination firsthand. The event is expected to play a significant role in further stimulating interest in Japan travel within the Canadian market.
"We are honoured to welcome the International Destination Conference to Japan for the first time, and we look forward to hosting so many of our valued partners from the Canadian market in Yokohama,” said Ms. Yuka Suzuki, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization, Toronto office. “Experiencing a destination in person provides a depth of understanding that cannot be conveyed through information alone. We believe this opportunity will help deepen appreciation for Japan’s unique offerings and further elevate awareness of the destination within Canada.”
The International Destination Conference also serves as the annual general meeting of the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies and Travel Advisors (ACTA), Canada’s largest travel industry association with 12,000 professional members. Participants will take part in networking sessions, panel discussions, workshops, educational programs, and business meetings. In addition to site inspections in Yokohama, the program will include trips to nearby lesser-known areas, providing attendees with opportunities to explore a wider range of destinations that can be promoted to Canadian travellers. The event is expected to generate meaningful business opportunities for both Canadian travel agencies and tourism stakeholders across Japan.
This announcement comes at a time when Japan continues to gain popularity in the Canadian market. In 2025, arrivals from Canada reached 688,000, representing an increase of more than 18 percent compared to 2024.
